Brown talk

Today I did my talk at Brown, and I am happy about the response and conversations. TIt also makes me realize that the article I am working on is maybe more book material than article material. It is something I need to think about. I think I would prefer the article format (but someone will have to accept an [...]

in Providence

I have now arrived in Providence, Rhode Island (without checked-in luggage so far). I will do a talk here (at Brown) tomorrow. I have already had a very stimulating conversation with Julia Flanders about humanities computing and digitial humanities. Tomorrow I will also report about Tim Lenoir’s class that I attended earlier today (probably on the [...]

getting lost as a navigational strategy

I talked to someone today who seems to be even more geographically challenged than me (I think we play in the same league though). And when I walked back from the Franklin Center I got lost – sort of – it took me 30 minutes longer than it should have. But knowing that I often [...]

on the road again

Tomorrow I will leave the West Coast for Durham, North Carolina, and Duke University. The program there looks terrific and I am looking forward to two intense days. After that (Tuesday evening) I will go to Providence, Rhode Island, and Brown University. There I will do a talk and meet with really interesting people. Hopefully [...]

working on three presentations at the same time

I am my favorite Berkeley café again. The sunet over the Golden Gate Bridge was beautiful. Apart from regular HUMlab emailing and the paper I am currently working on three presentations at the same time (sort of).

A long time ago I did bullet-point presentations and talked to the slides. I do not do that anymore. I prefer to use lots [...]

turkeys and tools

I am spending some time in the hotel bar doing work and having a beer. I am about the only one here. It is a bit sad because they have a special thanksgiving menu with turkey everything. Not any people so far. There was a group that asked about turkey and then left. And there [...]

on Swedish time

It is about midnight and it is clear that I have not really adapted to Pacific time. Maybe it is all my traveling. Well, it does not matter that much. I am looking forward to taking some time in the morning to work on my article. On Friday I have meetings. I also have to [...]

books and observations

I have mostly been blogging on the HUMlab blog so far on this trip. It is nice to move between the two spaces. It is late evening (about 11 pm) and I am spending time in a Berkeley café doing miscellanous work and emailing. I have two books on the table in front of me: [...]

signing the bus

This is NoFurthur (the bus - you can also see me and Bruce in the picture)

I was asked to sign the bus. Quite an honor!

I also added a note about me looking forward to going to Burning Man in the bus. Bruce has very far-reaching plans for the bus and it will not be ready for the trip [...]

two new books

I bought two new books today. Both look interesting, and in particular, I am looking forward to reading Hansen. Nunes brings up some intersting issues – not least regarding learning and online education.
