affordances

I just watched the filmed version of a recent traveler seminar on communication and teaching and virtual environments and I was reminded of Pete Smith’s excellent comment on affordances in relation to development. And do we make the most of the affordances that are there (which would seem to be rather Gibsonian) or do we [...]

Cornell campus

According to this story in USA Today, Ithaca, NY, is the no. 1 emerging city in the US. My next stop, Charlottesville, VA, is the best place to live.
The Cornell campus is striking and I just got back from a short walk.

It is a big campus and I have only seen a little bit of [...]

in transit

Just like Bryan (presently stranded at the Philadelphia airport) I have had some problems with getting to where I was supposed to go yesterday. Right now I am at a hotel to the LaGuardia airport (does not really look like an official webpage but I guess it is) and am I hoping to travel to [...]

I have not had much time for blogging lately. Work in the lab has been intense (many really interesting visits and events coming up), I have been traveling within Sweden and I have had to prepare for my US trip. In a few hours I will leave and my first stop is Ithaca and Cornell [...]

Implementing a university-wide meeting place for the Humanities and information technology: beanbags, virtual worlds and a [...]

This means that Chapter 1 is ok, Chapter 2 is almost ok (although I have quite a few comments/corrections to incorporate), Chapter 3 needs one more cybertext example and I need to check a few references, Chapter 4 is ok and [...]

I wish I was there

Matthew Kirschenbaum’s reporting from the Technologies of Writing seminar (at Folger Shakespeare Library with Peter Stallybrass and Roger Chartier) is rich and involving. It really makes you want to be there.
Two exercepts from his latest post:
Much of our attention has also been focused on writing surfaces. Writing begins not with stones but with [...]

seminar in the lab today

I posted about todays’s seminar in the HUMlab blog earlier. Elza Dunkels is going to talk about net cultures and what kids and young people do online (in Swedish). Link to live stream posted on HUMlab website.

nice interface

The Baby Name Wizard’s NameVoyager is a dichronic name visualization tool and a nice example of an explorative and responsive interface (from grockwel). The instant feedback reminds of X1 (at least the previous and faster version).
One of the features I like is that typing one letter gives you all names starting with that letter.
I [...]
