Universal drums

Something I really enjoyed about the Livia concert was the way in which music from all corners of the world was combined to form a varied and lively performance. However, what intrigued me the most was the way in which certain sounds seem to be universal. As I was listening to ?The Hunter?, by Carolyn Hillyer and Nigel Shaw, I was struck by how it in many ways resembled the traditional S?mi music with drums and jojking that I?ve been hearing so much of lately. The drums are what fascinate me the most, and it?s easy to see why drums have always played an important role in meditative music.
