Opening church service
I am now attending the opening service in Jokkmokk new church. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly) I won’t be able to post from here…
A choire from the Sami school have performed, and now the priest is talking about expectations. He’s comparing differert types of expectations. Religious ones and the expectations the visitors have on this weekend. He also gives a short history of the role of the church here in Jokkmokk. The first priest appearantly moved here only a few years after the market first started, and according to the present one, the cooperation between the christians and the Sami has been fruitful.
At this market there is lots of people of different cultures meeting, but still there are those that feel lonely. This Sunday is appearantly “Kyndelsmassodagen”, a holiday of light (kyndel=candle?). And the priest encourages the congregation to spread light… “The problems of this world are not due to the actions of the evil ones, but to the lack of action among the “good” ones.”
