There are many people who work together in HUMlab. Some are employed full time and some part time, but all bring different backgrounds and impulses which help to create an exceptional and creative working environment.

Kjell Jonsson – Chairman of the HUMlab Board

Kjell Jonsson

Kjell is a professor in the History of Ideas, and the head of the University Library at Umeå University. Among other things he is interested in the cultural history of natural science, the history of ideas in the mass media and the relationship between the humanities and technology.

Emma Olofsson – Economy and Administration

Emma Olofsson

Emma handles economy and staff administration, orders, bookings, purchase and much more.

Magnus Olofsson – Responsible for coordination

Magnus Olofsson

Magnus works with coordination in HUMlab, and is interested in graphics, sound, projectors and new media. He has some responsibility for purchases, supervision and project support. He can also help you with technical and more general questions in the lab.

Fredrik Palm

Fredrik Palm

Fredrik is a qualified teacher and systems manager, and has also taken several other courses including cultural geography. He is HUMlab’s expert in digital cartography and is also working with visualisation and on the development of methodology in several major projects.

Jon Svensson

Jon Svensson

Jon works with technical support, and gives support to researchers and artists. He is a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Media-Communication Engineering) and has also taken several courses at the faculty of arts. Jon has a special responsibility for the video editing equipment in HUMlab. He is also responsible for the Language Lab, which organisationally comes under HUMlab.

HUMlab’s Digital Artist

Linda Bergkvist – Digital Artist

Linda Bergkvist

Linda is HUMlab’s artist, working with digital art. She has some responsibility for the graphics in HUMlab, and can be found behind the pillar at the back of the lab. She prefers to work with a Wacom board and Photoshop. Here you can see some of her art >>

Graduate Students

Stefan Blomberg – Ph.D. Student

Stefan Blomberg

Stefan is a PhD student in humanities and information technology. He is studying different aspects of game related “fanfiction”, as well as the mod cultures and social context it is produced in. Stefan is also responsible for HUMlab’s computer game equipment.

Therese Örnberg – Ph.D. Student

Therese Örnberg

Therese is a PhD student in humanities and information technology, and more specifically in English linguistics. Her thesis is on communication on the Internet. She also works in the lab, where her main task is to coordinate a Swedish national network for ICT in academic language education (ITAS).

James Barrett – Ph.D. Student

Jim Barrett

Jim Barrett is an Australian born who has been living in Sweden since February 2000 with his Swedish wife and international child who was born in April 2000. Jim has just completed a Masters degree in modern languages (specifically English literature and electronic texts) at Umeå University with HUMlab.
