Successful opening of Fyr

The sound- and videoinstallation “Fyr” opened last friday in HUMlab-X. Inspired by the novel “Fyr” (“Lighthouse”) by Magnus Dahlström, sound artist Kent Gustafsson wanted to make an installation that recreated the barren and windswept feeling surrounding the lighthouse in the book. Together with film maker Fredrik Oskarsson he contacted HUMlab, and we thought this would be a great project for our new interactive floor screen!

With the film and sound material (and inspiration and input of course!) from Kent and Fredrik, HUMlabs computer technician Jim Robertsson and system administrator Johan von Boer have programmed the floor screen to react on the persons walking on the floor. The footprints and movements of people walking on the floorscreen triggers sounds, photographs and film sequences, and each participant will be surrounded by their own unique experience of the Lighthouse. If you are in Umeå during september, come and see it for yourself!

The production is made possible with support from DinoLab, Kulturbryggan and KonstnärsCentrumNord.
