Christopher Newfield: “Does Innovation Theory Need the Humanities?” (May 25, 10:00)

We are very happy to have Christopher Newfield visit for the Umeå Arts Campus inauguration this coming weekend. Professor Newfield will do a talk on “The Future University” on Saturday. See the program here (in Swedish).

I am also happy to announce that we will do another event with Newfield in HUMlab. There will be a HUMlab seminar on May 25 (Friday) at 10:00 in HUMlab (main campus, below the university library) on “Does Innovation Theory Need the Humanities?”. The seminar will live streamed here.

Christopher Newfield is Professor of American Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara and past Chair of the UC’s Academic Senate Committee for Planning and Budget; author of Ivy and Industry: Business and the Making of the American University (Duke University Press, 2003), 1880-1980 and Unmaking the Public University: The Forty-Year Assault on the Middle Class (Harvard University Press, 2008).

We are very proud to be hosting Chris and both talks are highly recommended. He is a very engaging speaker and his work is solid, important and thought-provoking.
