I am very happy to announce that Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Director of Scholarly Communication at MLA, will visit HUMlab and Umeå University in the week of December 5. She will do a talk on “Planned Obsolescence: Publishing, Technology, and the Future of the Academy” (the title of her new book). On December 6 at 1.15 pm, she will talk about the kinds of issues facing the academy broadly as we move into new forms of digital communication (abstract will be published here later). At 3 pm, Kathleen will lead a workshop on publishing strategies focusing on junior faculty and graduate students and on making or not making risky choices in relation to new forms of publishing. We will be posting more information on both these sessions shortly. Both are free and open to everyone interested, but you will need to register for the workshop.
